Substantive Interaction in Online Courses at JWU (9/30/15)

We place a high value on the interaction students have with instructors, as well as their engagement with each other. This can be seen throughout the courses you teach as well as in many of our master courses and our teaching guidelines. At this session we:

  • Took a focused look at JWU’s guidelines around interacting with students.
  • Shared insights from the 2015 Online Faculty Symposium around interaction.
  • Reviewed ways that JWU online faculty include their voice in their class, provide opportunities for meaningful interaction with students, and create an environment where students feel welcome to contribute to the class.
  • Discussed common challenges for creating interaction.

Mike DeMarco, Online Instructional Technologist, ended with a demonstration of some advanced discussion forum features.
